NICE WEATHER TODAY AND SATURDAY; RAIN & STORMS TO RETURN NEXT WEEK… Mostly sunny skies are expected on this Friday with nice conditions continuing into the weekend. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-70s across the region today. Rain becomes possible on Monday and there is a chance some locales won’t have the best view for the solar eclipse Monday afternoon. The path of totality does not run through our local area, but we will have a view of the partial eclipse on Monday afternoon. Rain and thunderstorms will become increasingly likely by the middle part of the week.

FEW SHOWERS MONDAY; UPDATE ON ECLIPSE FORECAST… South Alabama and northwest Florida are not in the direct path of totality for the solar eclipse slated to happen across the central U.S. on Monday. Clouds are likely across much of the path of totality region from Texas northeastward to Arkansas. The Storm Prediction Center continues to include areas near Dallas, TX in a severe weather risk on Monday. Locally, our region will be able to see the eclipse as a partial eclipse. This means only part of the sun will be obscured Monday afternoon. Cloudy skies seem likely for much of the day on Monday, and there is a real chance some locales won’t be able to see the eclipse at all due to cloud cover. Spotty showers are also possible Monday, particularly later in the day.

STORMS POSSIBLE WEDNESDAY INTO THURSDAY… While details remain a bit murky due to the potential being 5-6 days out, thunderstorms will become possible on Wednesday into Thursday of the upcoming week. There is a chance a few strong storms will be possible with this event but it is far too early for any specifics. This is something I will be monitoring closely over the next few days. I will bring you the latest info in the RedZone Weather app.
