QUITE HOT & HUMID THROUGH THE WEEKEND; INCREASED RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEK… High temperatures will peak in the mid- to upper-90s today and into the weekend with heat index values expected to be in the 105-110° range at times. Rain chances today and Saturday will be a bit lower (not zero) compared to previous days. There still may be a few widely scattered thunderstorms around but most spots today and tomorrow should remain dry. Rain chances will increase a bit as we get into Sunday.

SCATTERED STORMS TO BE MORE NUMEROUS NEXT WEEK… Higher (50-70%) rain chances are likely as we get into Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday of the upcoming week. Widespread severe weather is not expected but “splash and dash” pop-up showers and thunderstorms will be possible, specifically in the afternoon and evening hours each day. High temperatures will continue to be in the 90s with morning lows in the mid-70s.

TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IN SOUTHWESTERN ATLANTIC… There is a low-end (10-20%) chance of a tropical storm forming in the southwestern Atlantic Ocean near the coast of Georgia, South Carolina, or North Carolina over the next few days. Here is the discussion from the National Hurricane Center: “A broad area of low pressure located a few hundred miles off the southeastern U.S. coast continues to produce disorganized showers and thunderstorms. This system has not become any better organized today, and environmental conditions do not appear favorable for development before it moves inland over the southeastern U.S. by this weekend. Regardless of development, heavy rainfall will be possible for portions of the Carolina coast late this week into the weekend.”

GULF OF MEXICO, CARIBBEAN SEA REMAIN QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and main development region of the Atlantic Ocean are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. The peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season happens on September 11. Hurricane season officially ends on November 30.
