SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; P.M. STORMS & EVER SO SLIGHTLY COOLER LATER THIS WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms are likely to develop this afternoon into this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida as our local area remains in a very moist, hot air mass. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s with heat index values in the 105-110° range in many spots this afternoon. The forecast will essentially be on repeat over the next several days but we do have temperatures that will be a touch (and I mean truly ever so slightly!) cooler later this week. Instead of highs in the 90s, temperatures will peak in the upper-80s most likely on Friday and Saturday. Rain chances will also be higher later this week.
TROPICAL UPDATE… Good news to report this week in the tropics in that no tropical storms are expected to develop in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or the Atlantic Ocean. The Saharan Air Layer (SAL) continues to help inhibit production of any tropical storms out in the Atlantic. This dry, dusty, hot layer of air won’t last forever, but for now, it helps to prevent tropical storms from becoming organized. Hurricane season peaks, climatologically speaking, on September 11 each year.
