SCATTERED TO NUMEROUS STORMS EACH DAY THIS WEEK… Thunderstorms are likely at times today as a warm, moist air mass remains in place across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Widespread severe storms are NOT expected, but thunderstorms will be capable of producing cloud-to-ground lightning, loud thunder, and heavy rain at times. This overall pattern is expected to persist throughout the week, with rain being likely at times each day. High temperatures will run just a bit below our climatological norms for this time of year with most spots peaking in the upper-80s today and over the next few days. Heat index values, however, will continue to be in the 90s due to prolific humidity in place across the region.
TROPICAL UPDATE… The Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. There are some indications that the tropics may become more active in the 10-14 day range as we approach the month of August. Climatologically speaking, August, September, and October are the most active months of the Atlantic Hurricane Season.
