P.M. SCATTERED STORMS TODAY, FRIDAY, AND INTO THE WEEKEND… The “daily deluge” of showers and thunderstorms is set to continue across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Thursday with P.M. pop-up thunderstorms being likely at times. Not every community will have rain before the end of the day but I expect many locales across the region to have rain and storms around, particularly this afternoon into this evening. The forecast remains consistent on Friday and into the weekend with P.M. storms being likely each day. It won’t rain all day and severe storms remain unlikely.
TROPICS REMAIN QUIET; ACTIVITY LIKELY TO RAMP UP IN AUGUST… The north Atlantic Ocean, Caribbean Sea, and Gulf of Mexico are not expected to support any tropical storms developing over the next 5-7 days. Some of the longer range ensembles and model guidance is suggesting that chances of tropical storm formation may increase as we get into the month of August. Climatologically speaking, the months of August, September, and October are the most active months of hurricane season. The climatological peak of the season happens on September 11.
