P.M. STORMS TODAY, THIS WEEKEND, AND EARLY NEXT WEEK… If you asked me to tell you the forecast for a late July day one year in advance, I would say, “good chance of pop-up storms, won’t rain all day, with high temperatures around the 90 degree mark.” That is exactly what you can expect today in classic late July fashion. These pop-up storms will MOSTLY happen in the heat of the day in the afternoon and evening hours. More of the same is in store for the weekend with a slightly increased chance of rain and thunderstorms on Sunday, extending into Monday as well. Not every community will have rain today or over the next several days but many across the region will.
TROPICS QUIET, FOR NOW… No tropical storms are expected to develop in the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or the Atlantic Ocean over the next 5-7 days, per the latest Tropical Weather Outlook issued by the National Hurricane Center. Longer range models are indicating an uptick in tropical activity in early- to mid-August, but it is FAR, far too early for any specifics. Moreover, it is totally normal (climatologically speaking) to see more activity in August, September, and October compared to June and July. August, September, and October are the most active months of hurricane season each year.
