HIGHS NEAR 100° TODAY AND THURSDAY; HOT, DRY, & LOW RAIN CHANCES THRU WEEKEND… Triple digit heat is expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Wednesday. Air temperatures will be in the 98-102° range this afternoon with heat index values in the 105-110 degree range. Hot, humid conditions are expected today, tomorrow, Friday, and into the weekend. Unfortunately, rain chances are set to remain low through the weekend. We continue to monitor Tropical Storm Debby that continues to drop too much rainfall in areas to our east across parts of the Carolinas. Debby will move out of that region, finally, this weekend. We’re also keeping tabs on a tropical wave in the central Caribbean Sea.
TROPICS: TROPICAL STORM DEBBY NOT GOING ANYWHERE QUICKLY… Tropical Storm Debby continues to meander near the coast of South Carolina on this Wednesday morning. Debby continues to bring heavy rain to parts of the Carolinas. Flash flooding will continue to be a significant concern in these areas along with a threat of a few, brief tornadoes near the coast of South Carolina and North Carolina today. Debby is expected to start moving northeast this weekend, finally giving a break to the saturated areas in Georgia and the Carolinas.
TROPICS: LOW-END CHANCE OF TROPICAL DEVELOPMENT IN WESTERN CARIBBEAN… The tropical wave moving through the Caribbean Sea is not any better organized than this time yesterday. If anything, the system is a bit less organized. This is good news. Model guidance for the system has really collapsed over the last 24-36 hours and there are real questions this morning as to if the system can survive in the days ahead. Again, good news! The tropical wave is expected to continue to move toward the Yucatan Peninsula before potentially moving into the Bay of Campeche region in the southern Gulf in a few days.
