70% CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM FORMING THIS WEEK… While we do not know where this system will end up, there is a high chance of a tropical storm forming over the next 5-7 days near the U.S. Virgin Islands, Puerto Rico, the Dominican Republic, and Haiti. The National Hurricane Center indicates this system has a 70% chance of becoming a named tropical storm. Several model scenarios recurve the system into the open waters of the Atlantic while other solutions have more of a Gulf of Mexico track. This is nothing to worry about this weekend, but it is something to be aware of as we get into next week.
The next name on the tropical naming list: Ernesto.
LOW-END RAIN CHANCES TODAY; QUITE HOT… Highly isolated showers and perhaps a thunderstorm or two will be possible this evening across south Alabama and northwest Florida. The vast majority of us across the region will remain dry. High temperatures will be in the upper-90s across the region today.
