HOT TEMPS & POP-UP STORMS TODAY; RAIN & COOLER TEMPS COMING LATER THIS WEEK… High temperatures will peak in the mid-90s today in what will end up being the hottest day of this week. Today will be quite similar to yesterday in that we will have a few widely spaced showers and thunderstorms around but MOST locales will remain dry. We have an increasingly wet pattern ahead, specifically on Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday when rain chances will be quite high. There is a good chance that much of the daytime hours on Wednesday and Thursday will have rain and storms around. High temperatures will be in the mid-80s (!) later this week with morning lows slated to be in the 60s by the weekend.

TROPICS: AREA OF LOW PRESSURE IN NORTHWESTERN GULF… An area of disturbed weather in the northwestern Gulf of Mexico just south of Galveston, Texas is producing rain and thunderstorms across parts of Texas and Louisiana. This system has a very low-end (0-10%) chance of becoming a named tropical storm over the next day or so while it meanders in that same general area of the Gulf of Mexico. Direct local impacts in Alabama and northwest Florida are not expected because of this system regardless of if formal development happens.

TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE APPROACHING LESSER ANTILLES… The National Hurricane Center indicates a tropical wave located near Barbados, approaching the main islands of the Lesser Antilles, has a 40% chance of becoming a named tropical storm when the system is in the central or western Cairbbean Sea. It looks like this system will struggle to develop today or tomorrow but conditions certainly seem more favorable for development once the system reaches the western Caribbean Sea. For now, it is something to monitor but certainly nothing to stress over at this point. Quite a few viral, misleading “single model run images” have been circulating on social media. Discard the fear junk and instead, listen to sources (like us and like the National Weather Service) that do not hype these events. Quite frankly, hurricane season is already stressful for so many people. The last thing we need is for a keyboard warrior to spread fear and lies about these systems!
