RAIN AT TIMES TODAY INTO TONIGHT; GREATEST RAIN AMOUNTS NEAR COAST… Numerous showers and thunderstorms are expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Friday. Keep the rain gear and umbrellas handy throughout the day and into tonight as well. Multiple waves of showers are likely throughout the day, particularly closer to the coast. High temperatures will struggle to get to the 80 degree mark in many locales due to all of the clouds and rain around.

HIGHER RAIN TOTALS NEAR THE COAST… The latest Quantitative Precipitation Forecast (QPF) shows 3 to 4 inches of total rainfall being possible near the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches over the next few days. Those rainfall amounts are not expected over a short time, but rather over the course of the next 4-5 days in total. Rain amounts farther inland near the U.S. Highway 84 corridor will be in the 1-2″ range in total through the weekend.

FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS FORECAST… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will likely be ongoing in many communities across the region this evening. If you are headed to a high school football game locally, take the umbrellas and rain jackets and keep them handy! Rain may be heavy at times. It won’t be raining in EVERY community in the 6PM-9PM time frame tonight, but some communities inevitably will have rain around.

SPOTTY STORMS ON SATURDAY; DRIER SUNDAY… Scattered thunderstorms will be possible on Saturday with high temperatures in the low- to mid-80s. Storms will be far more widely spaced on Sunday as rain chances will drastically lessen. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the mid-80s.

TROPICAL UPDATE… Several disturbances scattered across the Atlantic Basin continue to remain loosely organized with none showing imminent signs of development. There are no imminent tropical threats to Alabama or northwest Florida. The tropical disturbance in the northwestern Gulf is partially responsible for the moisture influx into our area today causing the showers and thunderstorms. This disturbance is not expected to organize into a named tropical storm, however.
