NICE WEATHER ON THIS TUESDAY; TROPICS ACTIVE BUT NO IMMINENT LOCAL THREATS… Mostly sunny and warm conditions are expected across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. High temperatures will be in the upper-80s in most spots. Some locales may briefly hit the 90 degree mark this afternoon. We have more sunshine in store for Wednesday and at least part of Thursday ahead of wetter days returning for the weekend.
TROPICS: DISTURBANCE IN WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA… The overall probability of a tropical disturbance becoming a named tropical storm in the western Caribbean Sea or southern Gulf is now a bit lower compared to previous days. The overall model guidance has remained fairly inconsistent as to where this system will ultimately end up, but it looks like this will be a prolific rainmaker for parts of the Yucatan Peninsula of Mexico, western Cuba, and the southern Gulf. Beyond that, overall model guidance has supported a weaker system overall. This is positive news as earlier indications pointed to the potential for a stronger storm and perhaps even a hurricane. That possibility is seemingly off the table at this point, at least for now. This is simply an area of disturbed weather to watch over the next few days.
TROPICS: ISAAC NOW AN EXTRATROPICAL LOW; JOYCE WEAK… Tropical Storm Isaac degenerated into a extratropical system over the far northern Atlantic Ocean yesterday. The final advisory was issued by the National Hurricane Center on Isaac. In addition, Joyce remains a weak, disorganized tropical depression over the tropical Atlantic Ocean on this Tuesday.
TROPICS: STRENGTHENING T.S. KIRK MOVING WEST… While Tropical Storm Kirk continues to become more organized in the central Atlantic Ocean, the system remains well away from land areas. Kirk is expected to be well away from land over the next 7 days. The system is forecast to be a powerful, major hurricane moving north in the Atlantic Ocean in the next few days.
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE MOVING OFF OF AFRICA… In addition to all of the other activity happening across the Atlantic Basin, we’re also watching a tropical wave south of the Cabo Verde Islands in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean. This feature has an 80% chance of becoming a named tropical storm while moving west across the Atlantic Ocean. This system is well away from land areas and won’t be a concern to any land areas, directly, over the next 5-6 days at minimum.
