SHOWERS POSSIBLE AT TIMES TODAY AND FRIDAY; COOLER AIR EXPECTED NEXT WEEK… Rain will be possible at times on this Thursday, particularly closer to the Alabama and northwest Florida beaches. Most spots inland will remain dry throughout the morning hours. Scattered showers will increase across the region throughout the day. High temperatures will be in the 80s again today. We have cooler weather on the way for next week but not before showers at times this weekend.

GULF DISTURBANCE REMAINS DISORGANIZED… The National Hurricane Center has lowered the development probabilities for the tropical disturbance in the southern Gulf of Mexico to a 30% chance. The system simply is not organizing. This will probably be a big rainmaker for the Gulf of Mexico region and not much else. There is a chance the system organizes early next week, but the upper-level patterns points to the system moving toward the Florida Peninsula (not the Panhandle).

HURRICANE KIRK NOW A MAJOR HURRICANE… Hurricane Kirk continues to grow stronger on this Thursday. Kirk has reached major hurricane intensity with maximum winds in excess of 125 mph. The storm will continue to remain well away from land areas over the next 5-7 days.

TD13/SOON-TO-BE LESLIE RIGHT BEHIND HURRICANE KIRK… Just to the southeast of Hurricane Kirk in the Atlantic Ocean, Tropical Depression 13 is gaining strength this morning. The system is expected to become a tropical storm soon. It will take the name, “Leslie.” I expect this system to follow a relatively similar path to Kirk. There is a good chance TD13/Leslie-to-be will ramp up to a hurricane in a few days. No direct impacts are expected due to this system over the next 5-7 days.
