QUIET LOCALLY; DANGEROUS HURRICANE MILTON TO MAKE LANDFALL TONIGHT NEAR TAMPA… Direct local impacts from Hurricane Milton are not expected in south Alabama or northwest Florida. Hurricane Milton will likely become the “benchmark storm” for parts of west-central Florida near Tampa and Sarasota as widespread, significant damage is expected. Hurricane Milton will make landfall later this evening or tonight as a major hurricane. The storm surge along parts of the west coast of Florida could be catastrophic with peak storm surge values of 12-15 feet being possible. High winds in excess of 100 mph will be possible across parts of the Florida Peninsula. There is a high risk of flash flooding near Tampa and Orlando through tomorrow morning. In addition, a few tornadoes will be possible today, tonight, and tomorrow across the Florida Peninsula. The center of Hurricane Milton will probably make landfall between 9PM and 3AM EDT tonight.
NO DIRECT LOCAL IMPACTS FROM HURRICANE MILTON; NO TROPICAL TROUBLE LOCALLY… No significant, direct impacts are expected due to Hurricane Milton in Alabama or northwest Florida. Much of the week will be sunny and dry locally with cooler temperatures expected later this week. There will be a high risk of rip currents and high waves at the Alabama and Florida beaches through the end of the week and perhaps into the weekend as well. Let me emphasize as well that we have no tropical trouble in the forecast for the next 6-8 days. I see nothing consistent in the model data that would point to that. Good news!
NICE, SLIGHTLY COOLER WEATHER LOCALLY THROUGH THE WEEKEND… While our friends in the Florida Peninsula go through Hurricane Milton over the next 24-36 hours, locally, we have nice weather in store for south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-80s tomorrow and Friday. Overnight low temperatures will be in the 50s, making for very pleasant mornings into the weekend.
