COOL TEMPS TODAY AND INTO THE WEEKEND; COLD NIGHTS… Skies become mostly sunny on this Thursday with high temperatures set to be 12-15 degrees cooler than the last few days. Most spots will reach the low to mid 60s this afternoon. Clouds around the region this morning will give way to mostly sunny skies this afternoon into the early evening hours. Sunset today happens at 4:49PM. Increasingly colder temperatures are coming for the weekend with highs slated to be in the 50s on both Saturday and Sunday. Overnight lows will be at or below the freezing mark on Saturday, Sunday, and Monday mornings. No rain or precipitation is expected through the weekend.
WARMING TREND EARLY NEXT WEEK AND INTO CHRISTMAS… We come out of the proverbial “ice box” early next week with highs rising into the upper 50s on Monday, mid 60s on Tuesday, and upper 60s on Christmas Day Wednesday. The 8-14 Temperature Outlook continues to show temperatures running well above our climatological norms for this time of year. That means that from Christmas Day to New Year’s, there is a fairly high probability of high temperatures being in the 60s and 70s.
RAIN CHANCES MAY RISE AROUND CHRISTMAS DAY… Early indications continue to suggest that a chance of showers and thunderstorms may be possible on Christmas Day into the day after Christmas on Thursday. It is too early to know if severe weather issues will be possible. Despite a relatively long lull since our last tornado warning back in September, we note that December is usually a fairly active month for tornadoes across the Deep South. That has not been the case so far this year. Hopefully our quiet trend will continue but we may see an uptick in passing weather systems in the weeks after Christmas. For now, just looking at some rain on or just after Christmas. I will let you know when we know if severe weather will be a real possibility.
