STORMS ON FIRST DAY OF OCTOBER… Today very well might be the final day of 2018’s “pop up storm season.” Showers and thunderstorms will again be prevalent across the region this afternoon into this evening. Similar to yesterday, severe thunderstorms are NOT expected, but storms could produce heavy downpours of rain, thunder/lightning, and perhaps gusty winds. We transition Tuesday, however, to lower (not zero) rain chances. Let’s look at details…
DRIER DAYS START TUESDAY… Rain chances go down considerably starting Tuesday, as not nearly as many showers and thunderstorms will pop up in the heat of the day. That trend will probably continue for the next 7 days or so. We don’t really get any relief from the heat, however, as high temperatures will consistently be around the 90 degree mark. Morning lows will be in the mid- to upper-60s.
GOOD NEWS IN THE TROPICS… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea remain quiet. We are watching Tropical Storm Leslie way out in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about 1,000 miles east of Bermuda. Leslie is in an environment that is not supportive of much movement, and the system is expected to meander over the same part of the Atlantic for the next few days. No land impacts are in the forecast. We’re 2/3rds through the hurricane season, but October historically has featured a few strong systems. It’s important to not let our guard down just yet. Once we get to the end of this month, we can all be a bit more relaxed as November is typically much quieter.
