NICE WEDNESDAY; HEAVY RAIN LIKELY THURSDAY… Enjoy the mild, semi-nice weather on this Wednesday as we have a soaking, cool rain moving in for Thursday! Heavy rain that could lead to isolated instances of flash flooding will be possible throughout the day on Thursday. I expect most spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida will pick up 1-2″ of rain with isolated spots of 3″ in total being possible. The overall risk of severe weather is now lower! There is still a very small chance of an isolated tornado or two across coastal areas on Thursday into Thursday night, but the chance is conditional based on the position of a warm front.
PARTLY CLOUDY WEDNESDAY… You’ll notice less in the way of cloudcover (compared to yesterday) today across the region. Most spots will be in the mid-70s. Not much, if any rainfall, is expected across the region through this evening. Rain chances will spike overnight, however.
LOWER TORNADO RISK FOR THURSDAY… Confidence is higher today that the tornado risk across coastal Alabama and northwest Florida will be quite limited. In previous days, there was a good bit of model divergence concerning the extent of the tornado potential across coastal areas. Most models keep the center of the area of low pressure to our south and offshore. This means that vast majority of our area would be NORTH of the accompanying warm front, meaning odds are we won’t have any significant severe weather issues to contend with in south Alabama or northwest Florida. That being said, the tornado risk at the coast is not zero just yet.
POTENTIAL IMPACTS… A brief, isolated tornado or two will be possible, mainly along and south of Interstate 10 in Alabama and northwest Florida on Thursday into Thursday night. There is a significant chance that the tornado risk will NOT materialize due to the placement of the warm front being to our south. Heavy rain, however, is likely throughout the day on Thursday, meaning isolated instances of flash flooding could become possible. Regardless of if the tornado risk materializes, heavy rain and flash flooding concerns will be in place.
CLEARING SKIES ON FRIDAY… The area of low pressure responsible for the heavy rain and low-end risk of severe weather kicks out to our east on Friday. This means improving weather conditions are expected on Friday as cool, dry, stable air filters in from the northwest. High temperatures on Friday will be in the upper-60s. Friday night football games will likely be dry with temps in the 60s and 50s!
FANTASTIC FALL WEEKEND AHEAD… Sunny skies are expected Saturday through Monday with high temperatures in the 70s and morning lows in the 50s. Picturesque and very normal, climatologically speaking, for this time of year around our area!
