SCATTERED STORMS FOR ELECTION DAY… Showers and thunderstorms are expected today across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Election Day. Most of the thunderstorms will be elevated (weaker), but there may be a brief, stronger storm capable of producing gusty winds. The overall severe weather risk locally is now LOW. High temperatures will be well above climatological norms for this time of year. We should be in the mid-60s for afternoon highs, but most of us will end up around 80° this afternoon ahead of the passage of a cold front. Keep the rain gear handy today! Don’t forget to go VOTE!
RAIN TO LINGER THIS WEEK… The cold front entering our area from the northwest won’t actually make it entirely across our area today. Instead, it will stall out over our region, keeping us wet and unseasonably warm through Friday. There could be a notable thermal gradient in place across our region at times this week, with northern communities like Thomasville, Beatrice, Greenville, and Georgiana being 5-15 degrees cooler at times compared to communities farther to the south. Keep the rain gear handy over the next few days.
DRIER & COOLER THIS WEEKEND… Another, more powerful cold front will move by our region on Friday, paving the way for a drier, cooler weekend. High temperatures will drop back into the 60s by Saturday with morning lows down in the 40s. Veterans Day on Sunday should be sunny and cool. Our next chance of rain happens on Monday when showers could develop across the region.
MID-NOVEMBER CHILL… I didn’t talk about this in the video, but there is a growing consensus among the medium-term weather models that a significant cool down may happen across the eastern half of the United States in 7-10 days. Not a guarantee, but early indications point to high/low temperatures being 10-15 degrees below our climatological norms for this time of year. We’ll keep watching.
