SNOW LIKELY FOR TUESDAY; ACCUMULATION UNCERTAINTIES… The chance of seeing a few snowflakes/flurries flying across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Tuesday continues to rise. Rain showers will start Monday evening and extend into Tuesday morning before a change over to snow happens during the late morning hours. We still don’t have a firm grip of exactly where significant accumulation will happen, although there remains a high chance that much of our local area in the southern part of Alabama & NW Florida may not have any snow that actually sticks/accumulates. Here are a few midday Saturday details…
TIMING OF THE POTENTIAL SNOW… Rain chances will rise late Monday as rain showers move into our local area from the west. We will likely have a cold, miserable rain in place for much of Tuesday morning. The changeover from rain to snow will happen from 7AM Tuesday to 1PM. Keep in mind, there very well could be MANY places across our region that have no snow or only have flurries for a brief time. Snow will exit the region from Noon to 5PM, ending across our eastern counties before sunset happens. Significant travel issues could happen from Tuesday evening through Wednesday morning due to a black ice potential on local roadways. Temperatures Wednesday morning could be in the 10s across the interior of south Alabama!
SHORT TERM MODEL VIEW… We’re now within 72 hours of this event happening, thus the shorter-term models like the NAM (North American Model) are giving us a better idea of when and where snow is likely to happen. See the short video attached showing the latest run of the NAM showing where snow MAY happen. I use the word, “may” very intentionally as this is ONE model idea on the table. The snow/rain event won’t happen on radar exactly as this is depicted, but this is a good idea of how it COULD happen.
APP ALERTS… We will continue to monitor the snow potential setting up for Tuesday over the next few days and bring you the latest via the RedZone Weather app. Be sure to visit the Alerts tab (bottom right corner in the RZW app) and tap the large, yellow “Alert Settings” button to customize the alerts you would like to receive straight from me.
Have a great Saturday evening!
