WARM, MUGGY WEEKEND; STORMS LIKELY NEXT WEEK… We will remain in the warm sector this weekend as an unseasonably warm, muggy air mass remains in place across south Alabama and northwest Florida. North and central Alabama will likely be much cooler this weekend compared to our local area as a stalled cold front will stall across the south-central part of the state. This means that small, scattered rain showers will be possible this weekend out ahead of the front in our area. We won’t have “all day washout” events, but you will need to keep the rain jackets handy if you’re going to be out and about through next week. High temperatures today will climb into the 70s. Some spots by Sunday afternoon may hit 80 degrees! We’re also looking ahead to a storm system that could bring strong storms our way around Wednesday of the upcoming week. Let’s talk details…

FEELING MORE LIKE APRIL THAN FEBRUARY THIS WEEKEND… High temperatures will be in the 70s (with some near 80° by Sunday) this weekend with overnight lows in the 50s and 60s. Clouds will hang tough throughout the weekend across the area. Scattered rain showers are likely but due to the lack of atmospheric instability, I am not expecting widespread thunderstorm development. Severe weather is not expected this weekend.

PATTERN CONTINUES INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… Our area will likely be out ahead of a stalled frontal boundary through the middle part of next week. This will keep our weather unsettled. The chance of thunderstorms will increase on Monday ahead of a possible severe weather setup by Wednesday…

STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE MIDWEEK… Details are still sparse but model consistency seems to be increasing that we could have a round of strong thunderstorms in the middle part of next week. The right combination of ‘ingredients’ will in place with a strong low-level jet stream moving over our area, ample moisture, and at least some instability. Again, still too early to know specifics but anytime we see these parameters coming together, that generally means we need to monitor trends carefully. I’ll be watching this setup through the weekend. Be sure to check back with me in the RedZone Weather app for the very latest.
