RAIN & STORMS RETURN ON THURSDAY… Showers and thunderstorms will become likely on Thursday, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. It’s been several weeks since we have had a rain event like the one setting up for Thursday and Friday. There is a Level 1 (out of 5), low-end severe weather risk in place for the entire local area for Thursday with gusty winds being the main concern. The tornado risk remains very low, but not exactly zero. Most of us will have rain at times on Thursday into Friday with no major issues.
1-3+” OF RAIN EXPECTED… Most spots across the region will pick up 1 to 2 inches of rain over the next 72 hours, but some isolated spots may have between 3 and 4 inches of rain in total. The higher probability of greater rain amounts will happen over west Alabama in Choctaw, Clarke, Washington, and Mobile counties. Flash flooding may become a concern IF storms start training over the same areas.
ISOLATED STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE… The Storm Prediction Center continues to maintain their Level 2 (out of 5) slight risk zone for much of Mississippi, Louisiana, and Arkansas. These are the areas where severe weather is more likely to occur. Much of the western half of the state of Alabama and northwest Florida remains included in the Level 1 risk zone, where only isolated strong storms could happen. There is a good chance this will be more of a rain event than anything else.
UNSETTLED WEATHER CONTINUES INTO THE WEEKEND… Friday and Saturday will be wet at times with high temperatures in the 80s each day as a warm, unstable airmass remains in place across our region. The severe weather risk for Friday and Saturday remains very low/at zero for many spots. We’ll be watching our next system setting up for Sunday into Monday when more (stronger) storms may happen.
