HURRICANE MICHAEL: CATEGORY 5 AT LANDFALL… New data from NOAA has caused Hurricane Michael to be reassessed as a category 5 hurricane at the time of its Tyndall Air Force Base, Florida landfall on October 10, 2018. Michael is only the 4th category 5 hurricane to ever make landfall in the United States, joining the Labor Day Hurricane of 1935, Hurricane Camille (1969), and Hurricane Andrew (1992).
While this news is only just now “official,” it was obvious days after landfall that reassessment this would likely happen. See more details in my “on the record” article from the Andalusia Star-News a few months ago here.
