STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY; INTERMITTENT SHOWERS THIS WEEKEND… You would think we’re in the middle of summer based on our weather pattern today and on Saturday. Pop-up showers and thunderstorms will headline our forecast over the next few days. High temperatures will peak in the upper-80s each day. Rain chances will be highest today and on Saturday in the afternoon and evening hours as storms approach from Mississippi and Louisiana. There could be a few strong to marginally severe thunderstorms around on Saturday afternoon/evening with the main concerns being damaging wind gusts and hail. The tornado risk remains low, but not zero, for Saturday P.M. Next week looks unsettled with warm temperatures persisting. Let’s talk about your weekend forecast details…

LEVEL 2 RISK INTRODUCED FOR SATURDAY… The Storm Prediction Center has just introduced a Level 2 (out of 5) slight risk zone valid for Saturday afternoon and evening for the entirety of south Alabama and northwest Florida. This means that scattered instances of strong to severe storms will be possible. The main concerns will be damaging winds and hail. The tornado risk remains low, but not quite zero. Thus, we will be in studio all afternoon and evening closely monitoring radar trends. If we happen to have tornado warning coverage, we will bring that to you on Facebook Live and in the Live tab of the RedZone Weather app.

LEVEL 2 RISK: WHO IS INVOLVED… All of the local area is included in the Level 2 risk zone: Mobile, Pensacola, Destin, Andalusia, Opp, Greenville, Thomasville, Grove Hill, Jackson, Leroy, Monroeville, Beatrice, Uriah, Chatom, Wagerville, Millry, Fruitdale, McIntosh, Citronelle, Bayou La Batre, Dauphin Island, Gulf Shores, Bay Minette, Daphne, Fairhope, Century, Molino, Milton, Jay, Navarre, Brewton, Atmore, Poarch, Huxford, Flomaton, Munson, Laurel Hill, Greenville, Georgiana, and Crestview.

TROPICAL DISTURBANCE REMAINS WEAK EAST OF FLORIDA… The tropical disturbance we’ve been monitoring off the eastern/Atlantic coast of Florida remains unorganized and weak. Showers and thunderstorms have been happening across the Florida Peninsula and over the northern stretches of The Bahamas due to this system. The National Hurricane Center indicates that further development into a tropical storm is unlikely. NHC gives the system a 10% chance of developing into a tropical storm as it slowly moves northeast this weekend into early next week. No major issues are expected. No direct local impacts are expected in south Alabama or northwest Florida. Hurricane season officially kicks off June 1.

CONSISTENT WEATHER INTO EARLY NEXT WEEK… Rain and storms will be possible today, on Saturday, and into Sunday. Monday likely will be drier (and a bit warmer with temperatures into the low-90s) before more pop-up storms happen early next week. Temperatures will consistently be in the upper-80s and near 90° each afternoon with morning lows in the mid-60s.
