HOT SUNDAY AFTERNOON; HOT, SUNNY MEMORIAL DAY UPCOMING… Temperatures are in the 90s this afternoon across much of south Alabama and northwest Florida. Most spots will make a run at the upper-90s by 3PM. Some spots may hit the 100 degree mark briefly before we begin to cool off later this evening. We’ve got plenty of sunshine in place with a field of cumulus clouds developing, but I expect rain chances to remain very, very low today across our region. Hot weather is in store for Memorial Day Monday ahead of several more hot, sunny days. We’re also looking ahead to our next notable rain chance that will come later this week. Let’s talk details…
HOT WEATHER SET TO CONTINUE… Near 100° this afternoon followed by overnight lows around 70° on Monday morning. That’s what you can expect in the temperature department followed by another hot afternoon for Memorial Day Monday. Temperatures will again surge to around 100° by Monday afternoon. If you’re headed out to the beach, pool, or creek, be sure to apply ample sunscreen as UV index values will remain very high (10+). That means it won’t take long for a sunburn to happen. Rain chances remain very low (5% or less) for Memorial Day. Just like the last few days, one or two rogue, small pop-up storms may happen, but widespread rain is not anticipated. I’ll have updates as needed in the RedZone Weather app.
NEXT NOTABLE RAIN CHANCE: THURSDAY… Tuesday and Wednesday will be mostly sunny and hot before our next more significant chance of rain on Thursday. A frontal boundary will approach our area from the northwest on Thursday, sparking a few showers and thunderstorms. The greatest concentration of rain/storms will likely happen over west Alabama. For now, severe weather remains unlikely. We’ll talk more about this rain chance over the next few days.
