DEPRESSION FORMS IN ATLANTIC; EXPECTED TO BECOME HURRICANE… The National Hurricane Center has initiated advisories on Tropical Depression Five, located several hundred miles east of the Lesser Antilles. The system is expected to become a tropical storm in the next 24 hours and will likely become a hurricane by midweek.

NEED TO MONITOR CAREFULLY… Unlike the other tropical system near The Bahamas, this is a tropical depression we will need to monitor carefully as it moves westward. There is PLENTY of uncertainty as to where this system ultimately goes. There is no one, and I mean NO one, that can say if U.S. impacts will happen. Is that a possibility in 7-10 days? Yes. Is it a certainty? No.

INVEST 98L OVER SOUTH FLORIDA… The area of low pressure we’ve been tracking for the last few days near The Bahamas moved inland over south Florida yesterday. The system is expected to gradually move east or northeast in the next day or two. Once the system emerges over the Atlantic Ocean near or north of The Bahamas, a tropical storm may form as the system moves out to sea. No direct local impacts are expected in Alabama or northwest Florida from INVEST 98L regardless of if formal development happens.
