ISOLATED STORMS TODAY; SLIGHTLY COOLER WEEK AHEAD… Rain and storms are happening near the Alabama beaches early on this Sunday afternoon ahead of a decaying cold front that is set to move through our area late Monday into early Tuesday. Our best chance of rain will happen on Monday as showers and thunderstorms become a bit more numerous out ahead of the advancing front. While this cold front will bring temperatures down somewhat, the bigger surge of cold air is set to happen on Saturday. Temperatures might drop into the 70s on Saturday for afternoon highs! Temperatures this week are set to be in the 80s each afternoon with morning lows in the mid-60s. Let’s look at your weather headlines…
FEW STORMS AROUND TODAY INTO THIS EVENING… At the time this video is being produced (1:45PM Sunday), scattered thunderstorms are happening near and just offshore from the Alabama beaches. I expect more showers and thunderstorms to pop up across inland areas of south Alabama and northwest Florida in the hours ahead. Some of the storms may be on the strong side with gusty winds and cloud-to-ground lightning being the main concerns. Widespread severe weather is not expected and the tornado risk today remains basically at zero.
MORE RAIN POSSIBLE MONDAY… Unfortunately, I can’t guarantee that everyone will have rain before the end of the day on Monday but odds are certainly good that MOST spots will have at least some rain as a cold front approaches from our northwest. The greatest chance of rain Monday will happen in the afternoon and evening hours. Just like today, we’ll be watching radar trends for any storms that can ramp up to be a bit stronger with gusty winds being the main concern. Severe weather is not expected on Monday and the headline remains: BENEFICIAL rain will be possible. I’ll have radar updates throughout the day in the RedZone Weather app.
DRY MIDWEEK WITH WARM TEMPS… Tuesday through Thursday will feature mostly sunny skies with highs in the upper-80s with overnight lows in the mid-60s. No major weather issues are expected midweek, other than the chance for patchy areas of dense fog in the morning hours, particularly on Tuesday morning.
NEXT RAIN CHANCE: FRIDAY INTO SATURDAY… Compared to the front that is set to move through on Monday, our next cold front will be much stronger as we go into the weekend. The latest model guidance suggests this cold front will approach from the west late Friday night into Saturday morning. Showers and storms will become possible in this timeframe, although it’s too early to be specific about details. The chance of severe weather looks low for now, however. New rain amounts of up to one half inch will be possible with this event, with isolated higher amounts where thunderstorms happen.
SIGNIFICANTLY COOLER AIR COMING SATURDAY… High temperatures Saturday are projected to be in the 78-80° range after the passage of the cold front. Temperatures will finally be in the 50s on Sunday morning (one week from today). This will be a much-welcomed true taste of fall that many folks across our area have been waiting for.
