MOSTLY SUNNY FRIDAY BEFORE RAIN OVERNIGHT; COLD FRONT TO MOVE BY SATURDAY… Skies will be mostly sunny today ahead of a chance of rain late this evening as a strong cold front approaches from the northwest. Temperatures will be at their warmest today compared to the next 7 days when we will be in somewhat of slightly cooler weather pattern. Today, we’ll reach the 88-90° range in most spots across south Alabama and northwest Florida. For Saturday, high temperatures will be in the upper-70s and low-80s across our region. You’ll be able to walk outside and feel a substantial difference in the temperature on Saturday morning as the cold front moves across our area. We’re also looking ahead to higher rain chances next week. Let’s talk details…
HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL FORECAST… Little to no rain issues are expected through 6PM this evening. We could have a few small showers and storms happening across the far western fringes of west Alabama in parts of Choctaw, Clarke, Washington, and Mobile counties after 8PM. Temperatures at the 7PM kickoff will be in the 80-82° range for most locales across our region, falling into the upper-70s by the end of the games. The overall risk of rain tonight remains very low for most spots across our region.
SHOWERS & STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY, ESPECIALLY IN MORNING… Rain chances will be at their peak with this passing cold front on Saturday morning, although a few showers may happen late in the evening hours of Saturday. Most spots locally won’t have very much rain, unfortunately, but there could be some isolated spots that pick up over one half inch of rain. There is basically no risk of severe weather with the passage of this cold front, although there could be a few thunderstorms involved that could produce loud thunder at times.
SHARP TEMPERATURE GRADIENT EXPECTED AS FRONT PASSES… The cold front will sweep across south Alabama and northwest Florida most likely during the morning hours of Saturday. There may be a sharp thermal gradient in place across our region when we wake up Saturday, with some spots in west Alabama being in the 50s and some spots across the eastern half of our region being in the 70s. Ultimately, daytime heat content will help to drop the spread in temperatures as the front moves by. Most of us will end up around 80 degrees by 3PM Saturday.
COLLEGE FOOTBALL FORECASTS… Each week, we provide a brief summary of our local college football matchups when the weather isn’t quite active locally. See details below.
ALABAMA AT TEXAS A&M… College Station, Texas will host the matchup on Saturday between the Alabama Crimson Tide and the Texas A&M Aggies. Kickoff happens at 2:30PM with the game being televised on CBS local stations. It’s going to be absolutely beautiful for the game with sunny skies expected. High temperatures around 3PM in College Station will only be near 70°, meaning some fans that are cold-natured may need a light jacket. Temperatures will decline to around 60° by the end of the game.
AUBURN IS OFF… The Auburn Tigers are off this week. The next game will be against Arkansas next week.
TROY VS. SOUTH ALABAMA… Troy plays South Alabama on Wednesday, October 16 with a 7PM kickoff on ESPN2. Early indications point to the potential for a few showers and thunderstorms around Troy on Wednesday, although rain chances are in the 30-40% chance range. Temperatures will be in the 70s for the game, most likely.
SHOWERS & STORMS INCREASINGLY LIKELY NEXT WEEK… Our weather pattern will shift from hot and dry to a slightly cooler and wet pattern in the early part of next week. Showers and thunderstorms could happen Monday through Wednesday. We’ll keep you posted about details in the RZW app.
