ANOTHER GORGEOUS FALL DAY; RAIN LIKELY ON SATURDAY… I’ve heard many people say they’re quite pleased with the weather conditions of the last few days! It certainly has been nice and today is set to continue that streak. High temperatures on this Thursday will peak in the mid-70s under mostly sunny skies. More active weather is on the way for Saturday when a cold front is slated to slide through our area. This means there is not only a chance of rain at times, there also is a chance of some heavier rain at times. The good news is the overall severe weather risk Saturday remains very low if not zero in most spots. Looking ahead to next week, nice weather is upcoming for Sunday through Monday night. Tuesday and Wednesday could feature showers and thunderstorms as another cold front gets set to move through. Let’s look at your forecast details, including an early look at what might happen on Thanksgiving Day.
MOSTLY CLOUDY ON FRIDAY; FEW SHOWERS POSSIBLE LATE… After this streak of sunny, nice days, clouds will be on the increase on Friday. It is reasonable at this point to suggest that the daytime hours of Friday AND Friday evening will likely be dry across our region. This is great news for the local high school football playoff games that are happening. Temperatures on Friday afternoon will peak in the mid- to upper-70s. Kickoff temperatures will be in the low-60s or upper-50s for the football playoff games across the region. Rain coverage will increase across the region AFTER midnight on Friday night/Saturday morning.
HEAVY RAIN POSSIBLE AT TIMES ON SATURDAY… Rain will start in most spots locally between 3AM and 9AM on Saturday morning. The timing on this has changed somewhat, with the system arriving a bit later than initially anticipated. Saturday morning and the early part of the afternoon certainly look wet, with the potential for heavy rain at times. Temperatures will peak in the low-70s around midday Saturday before tumbling after the passage of the cold front.
SEVERE WEATHER RISK REMAINS LOW FOR SATURDAY… I see no reason at the moment to mention the possibility of severe weather across any part of south Alabama and northwest Florida on Saturday as this cold front moves through our region. Wind shear values will be quite high, but the limiting factor (as is SO often the case this time of year around here) is the lack of atmospheric instability. This should keep the severe weather issues virtually nil AND limit the amount of thunder and lightning in the system. There could be some lightning near the immediate beach zones where instability values will be a touch higher.
SUNSHINE RETURNS ON SUNDAY INTO MONDAY… Clouds will clear out late Saturday into Sunday, setting up a nice Sunday afternoon. High temperatures will drop back into the low-60s after the passage of a cold front. There is a good chance overnight lows on Monday could drop back into the upper-30s across the inland areas of south Alabama.
MORE RAIN LIKELY TUESDAY INTO WEDNESDAY… Another storm system sets up across the nation’s heartland during the middle part of the upcoming week. For us, that means a chance of showers and maybe some thunderstorms Tuesday into Wednesday. It’s too early to know whether severe weather will be an issue. That is a potential we’ll be watching over the next few days.
EARLY LOOK AT THANKSGIVING FORECAST… There is quite a bit of forecast uncertainty late next week. For now, Thanksgiving, Black Friday, and Iron Bowl Saturday look dry as we will likely “be in between” cold front passages. It’s far too early to know conclusively that we will be dry, but that’s what the early indication remains. High temperatures look seasonal in the 60s. We’ll bring you a refined Thanksgiving forecast this weekend. Be sure to check back with me for the latest.
TROPICAL STORM SEBASTIEN MOVING NORTHEAST… The late season tropical storm, Sebastien, is now moving north-northeast out to sea. The system is in the process of being absorbed by a cold front. No direct United States impacts are expected from Sebastien. The 2019 Atlantic Hurricane Season will officially end November 30.
