INTERMITTENT RAIN CONTINUES INTO MONDAY MORNING; DRY, MILD CHRISTMAS… Dreary, cool, wet conditions are set to continue into the evening hours on this Sunday across south Alabama & NW Florida. The cool, stable air mass in place across our region continues to mitigate any potential for strong to severe storms, thus we’re calling for periods of intermittent rain at times this afternoon into this evening. The area of low pressure responsible for all of the rain this weekend will gradually move away from our region on Monday, bringing drier conditions for the middle part of the week as we go into Christmas. We’ll be looking ahead to next weekend when we could have our next round of active weather. Let’s look at the details.
SHOWERS HAPPENING THIS EVENING… Light rain continues across the eastern half of our local area at the time this video/discussion is being produced (2:05PM). Our local radar reveals areas of rain near Evergreen, Owassa, Johnsonville, Brewton, East Brewton, Riverview, Beatrice, Burnt Corn, Hybart, Camden, and Oak Hill. These showers are lifting northward. Heavier rain is happening to our southeast near Port St. Joe and Mexico Beach. Quite a bit of heavy rain is happening this afternoon across north Alabama as well.
RAIN EXITS MONDAY; NICE CHRISTMAS EVE… We transition from a cool, wet pattern Monday morning to a drier, milder pattern Monday afternoon. Rain will exit our region from west to east Monday morning. Temperatures will begin to moderate during the afternoon hours. I expect high temperatures Monday to be in the upper-50s. Some spots might even hit the lower-60s. Midweek will feature mostly sunny skies as high temperatures surge into the low-70s on Christmas Eve Tuesday.
DRY & COOL CHRISTMAS EVE NIGHT… Will Santa have a nice sleigh ride across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Tuesday night? YES! Temperatures will be in the 50s across our region all evening and all night as we go into Christmas Day. No rain (or snow!) issues are expected anywhere close by.
FANTASTIC, MILD CHRISTMAS DAY… Other than a few passing clouds during the afternoon hours, Christmas Day across much of Alabama and northwest Florida will be dry and fairly mild. High temperatures will be in the low-70s. We start the day in the upper-40s, but temperatures will quickly climb into the 60s by late morning. I don’t see any significant weather issues happening on Christmas Day across our region. Great news!
RAIN RETURNS FOR UPCOMING WEEKEND; STORMS POSSIBLE… We note that there are some signals for a potential severe weather setup at some point next weekend into the early part of the next week (December 27-30). Details remain scarce as this point (as should be expected 7-8 days out). Confidence is high we’ll have an unsettled, wet pattern during the upcoming weekend with a chance of a few strong storms at some point. Be sure to check back with me this week for more details.
