COLDEST NIGHT OF THE WEEK: WIND CHILL VALUES BELOW 30 DEGREES… Tonight is slated to be the coldest night out of the next 7 to 10 days with overnight lows near the freezing mark and wind chill values in the upper-20s. The map attached highlights the projected wind chill value at 6AM on Saturday morning, which is (in most cases) 3 to 5 degrees below the air temperature. Most spots across inland counties will briefly dip below freezing on the thermometer, but the good news is we quickly rebound into the 40s early tomorrow morning. Afternoon highs on Saturday will be in the mid-60s.
REBOUNDING TEMPERATURES SATURDAY… Most spots hit the 60 degree mark earlier today but I expect many areas to reach the mid-60s (63-66°) on Saturday afternoon. Sunshine is likely in the morning with increasing cloudiness expected later in the day. There could be a few showers across the western zones (Washington, Clarke, Mobile counties) as soon as late Saturday evening.
RAIN RETURNS SUNDAY… Rain is likely across south Alabama and northwest Florida on Sunday. For now, there is zero risk of severe weather and near zero chances of thunderstorms due to paltry instability values. High temperatures on Sunday will be in the upper-60s. We’ll call it a 60% chance of rain for any given spot across our region on Sunday.
STORMS LIKELY TUESDAY… Our next chance of strong storms will happen Tuesday into Wednesday as a surface low pressure area develops to our west. This will, in the words of the Storm Prediction Center, “allow rich Gulf moisture to stream northward across the ArkLaTex region and the southeast states. At least a low-end severe convection appears possible.” This means that there will likely be some type of severe weather risk as we go into Tuesday and Wednesday of the upcoming week, but it is entirely too early to know specifics or details. Certainly nothing to worry about for now as this is simply something to watch over the next few days. I’ll keep you posted in the RedZone Weather app.
