TROPICAL DEPRESSION 25 FORMS IN WESTERN CARIBBEAN… The tropical disturbance we have been tracking for several days has become Tropical Depression 25 on this Friday at midday. Maximum sustained winds are near 35 mph. The tropical depression is expected to become Tropical Storm Gamma later today or tonight. The official forecast from the National Hurricane Center calls for TD15/Gamma-to-be to move northwest and make landfall along the Yucatán Peninsula of Mexico. A turn to the west is expected to happen early next week, although there is considerable uncertainty after 3 days since steering currents will weaken considerably. We note the official forecast from NHC calls for brief strengthening before landfall, some weakening as the center of circulation moves across the eastern part of Mexico, then re-strengthening early next week in the southern Gulf.
I’ll have more details about developing TD25 later today.
