HURRICANE DELTA MAKES LANDFALL IN SOUTHWEST LOUISIANA… Hurricane Delta has officially made landfall near Creole, Louisiana as a category 2 hurricane with max winds of 100 mph. The center of Delta crossed the coast in the last few minutes only 30 miles away from where powerful Hurricane Laura made landfall just 7 weeks ago. The hurricane is now moving north-northeast at 14 mph. A slight increase in forward speed is expected over the next 12-24 hours.
RECORD-SETTING LANDFALLS THIS YEAR… Hurricane Delta has just become the 10th (yes, 10th) tropical system to make landfall in the United States this year and the fourth in Louisiana just this year. Delta is the 5th U.S. hurricane landfall this year, joining Hanna, Isaias, Laura, and Sally. 2020 is now the first and only year on record (since 1851) in which ten tropical cyclones have made landfall in the U.S. The previous record was 9 landfalls in the 1916 Atlantic Hurricane Season.
