ONLY A FEW SHOWERS TODAY; SLIGHTLY HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Today will feature a few widely spaced showers and thunderstorms, but I expect the vast majority of us across south Alabama and northwest Florida to remain dry throughout the day. Temperatures will peak near the 90 degree mark this afternoon. Rain chances will gradually increase over the next several days. I expect this weekend to feature more in the way of scattered thunderstorms, although no days are expected to be an “all day washout.” Our seasonal summertime pattern is set to continue over the next 7 days with heat, humidity, and a chance of P.M. storms each day. 30-40% CHANCE OF TROPICAL STORM FORMATION IN EASTERN ATLANTIC… Right now, a tropical wave is located over the western part of the African continent. This tropical wave is expected to emerge into the eastern Atlantic Ocean over the next few days where it may become a tropical storm. This system is far away from North American and Central America. Even if development occurs, it has a long path ahead of it before it is a concern for any land areas on our side of the globe. From NHC: “A tropical wave is forecast to move off the west coast of Africa by late Thursday. Environmental conditions appear somewhat conducive for some slow development over the far eastern Atlantic through the weekend into early next week while the system moves generally westward at about 15 mph.”
20% CHANCE OF TROPICAL WAVE DEVELOPING IN CENTRAL ATLANTIC… A tropical wave located about halfway between the Lesser Antilles and Africa now has a 20% chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next several days. From NHC: “A tropical wave located over the central tropical Atlantic is producing a broad area of disorganized showers and thunderstorms. Environmental conditions are expected to be marginally conducive for some slow development east of the Lesser Antilles by Sunday and into early next week while the disturbance moves west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.”
DISTURBANCE NEAR CABO VERDE ISLANDS DISSIPATES… The tropical area of low pressure we have been tracking for the last two days near the Cabo Verde Islands remains weak and disorganized. This system is not expected to develop into a tropical storm as it moves northwest into cooler waters of the east-central Atlantic Ocean.
