FANTASTIC WEATHER THIS WEEKEND; STORMS POSSIBLE NEXT WEEK… Picture perfect weather is ahead today and into the weekend across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-70s on this Friday and I expect highs to be in the mid-70s on Saturday and Sunday as well. Our weather pattern will undergo a fairly significant change as we go into next week as we have multiple chances of rain and thunderstorms ahead. The first chance of a few showers will set up late Sunday night into Monday as a cold front approaches from the northwest. A more significant round of storms may happen across parts of the Deep South on Wednesday into Thursday. A few more Friday morning forecast notes are below.
GORGEOUS, WARM DAYS THIS WEEKEND… I’m not sure that it ever gets much better in the month of December, especially if you are a fan of warmer weather this time of year. High temperatures on Saturday and Sunday will easily surpass 70 degrees in all locales across the region. Overnight lows will be near 50 in most spots. Cloud coverage will likely increase late Saturday into Sunday ahead of a few showers becoming possible late Sunday night. No significant weather impacts are expected locally this weekend.
SCATTERED STORMS POSSIBLE LATE SUNDAY NIGHT INTO MONDAY… A few showers and perhaps a few thunderstorms may be possible late Sunday night into the daytime hours on Monday as a cold front passes across our region from northwest to southeast. Right now, severe weather parameters seem fairly low with this system. I would not be surprised if we had a few loud thunderstorms, particularly early Monday morning. Cloud-to-ground lightning and heavy rain will be the main concerns. Rain chances will lessen Monday afternoon and evening ahead of more rain being possible midweek.
STRONG STORMS POSSIBLE MIDWEEK… Scattered strong to severe thunderstorms may happen across parts of the Deep South as we go into Wednesday and Thursday of the upcoming week. High temperatures will remain in the 70s and winds will shift from out of the south, thus allowing Gulf moisture to stream inland, potentially paving the way for a few strong storms to develop. It is far too early to know any hazard specifics, but since we are in the height of our secondary severe weather season, now is the time to start thinking about where you’ll be and what you will be doing Wednesday into Thursday, just in case we happen to have a tornado threat develop. That is only a possibility at this point and there is no way to know just yet if a tornado threat will materialize locally.
