HIGHS NEAR 103° THIS AFTERNOON; POTENTIAL HOTTEST DAY OF THE YEAR… Today may be the hottest day of the year as air temperatures are expected to rise into the low-100s in many locales across south Alabama and northwest Florida. Heat index values will be in the 105-110° range in many spots. A few showers and thunderstorms may be possible this afternoon into this evening but rain chances are expected to remain rather low both today and tomorrow. Looking ahead to the weekend, afternoon showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage. Next week, we return to more of a seasonal pattern with showers and thunderstorms becoming likely each afternoon and evening. A few more Thursday morning forecast notes are below.

VERY HOT TEMPS TO PERSIST INTO FRIDAY… High temperatures will be above the 100 degree mark today and tomorrow as a large ridge of high pressure situated to our north continues to have a firm grip on our local weather pattern. High temperatures may reach the 103-105° range today with highs in the low-100s on Friday as well. Overnight lows tonight and on Friday night will be in the mid-70s.

SCATTERED STORMS AROUND THIS WEEKEND… Showers and thunderstorms will increase in coverage this weekend. Not every community will have rain before the end of the day on Saturday or Sunday but there will be localized downpours around. Widespread severe weather is not expected. Storms will be capable of producing gusty winds, heavy rain, and cloud-to-ground lightning.

TROPICS REMAIN QUIET… The National Hurricane Center indicates in their Tropical Weather Outlook that no tropical storms are expected to develop over the next 5 days across the Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, or the Atlantic Ocean.
