MORE POP-UP STORMS AS WE GO INTO AUGUST… Elevated rain chances are ahead later this week and even on this Monday, we have a chance of showers and thunderstorms across south Alabama and northwest Florida. These summertime pop-up storms seemingly form at random in the heat of the day, mainly in the afternoon and evening hours. No severe weather issues are expected today but some of the storms may be rowdy at times, producing loud thunder, heavy rain, cloud-to-ground lightning, and gusty winds. High temperatures will be in low- to mid-90s today.

TROPICS CONTINUE TO BE QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean are not expected to support tropical storm formation over the next 5-7 days. I do not see any signs on the longer range (10-14 day models) that suggest an imminent tropical threat. August, September, and October are historically the most active months of the Atlantic Hurricane Season. Statistically speaking, 92% of tropical activity happens AFTER August 1 each year. Hopefully our extended streak of quiet conditions continues!
