HIGH RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND: SCATTERED STORMS WILL BE THE NORM… Pop-up thunderstorms will be likely each day through the Labor Day holiday weekend, particularly each afternoon and evening. Rain chances are higher than the last few days on this Friday. Most communities will probably have rain at times before the end of the day. High school football games could be impacted by the pop-up storms this evening. You can check the Radar tab in the RedZone Weather app for the very latest radar view throughout the day. Tropical Storm Danielle formed yesterday morning and is on the cusp of becoming the first hurricane of the 2022 Atlantic hurricane Season. Fortunately, Danielle is located well away from any land areas. Two other tropical waves in the Atlantic are also being monitored. A few more Friday morning forecast notes are below.
FRIDAY NIGHT LIGHTS FORECAST… If you are headed to a high school football game tonight across southwest Alabama or northwest Florida, keep tabs on the radar and keep the rain gear handy. Thunderstorms may cause some games to be delayed. Temperatures will be around the 80 degree mark at 7PM, falling into the mid-70s by the end of the games. Note that not every community will have rain, but I expect some probably will this evening. I’ll have radar updates posted in the RedZone Weather app.
TROPICS: DANIELLE POISED TO BECOME FIRST HURRICANE OF THE SEASON… Tropical Storm Danielle is packing maximum winds near 65-70 mph this morning. The storm is located about 925 miles west of The Azores islands in the middle of the northern part of the Atlantic Ocean. Danielle is not moving much at all and the storm is expected to basically be stationary in the same part of the Atlantic over the next few days. The five day cone of uncertainty for Danielle shows a slow northeastward component of motion happening in 4-5 days. There is a very high probability Danielle never affects land areas. No direct USA impacts will happen because of Danielle.
TROPICS: DISTURBANCE NEAR LESSER ANTILLES REMAINS DISORGANIZED… The tropical disturbance located near the northernmost Lesser Antilles remains devoid of any low-level center of circulation this morning, meaning the system remains a tropical wave and not a named tropical storm. There continues to be a medium to high chance this system becomes a tropical storm over the open waters of the Atlantic Ocean before turning northeast and moving out to sea. Impacts from this system, regardless of if formal development happens, will be possible in Bermuda in a few days.
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE NEAR CABO VERDE ISLAND FADING OUT… The tropical wave that emerged from Africa a few days ago is located near the Cabo Verde Islands. This system is no longer expected to develop into a named tropical storm as dry air continues to inhibit development.
