MOSTLY SUNNY WEEKEND; A FEW STORMS POSSIBLE SATURDAY… Dry conditions are expected on this Friday ahead of a low-end chance of a few showers and thunderstorms this weekend. Most communities will remain dry not only this weekend, but into next week. There may be a few spotty storms around in the afternoon and evening hours of Saturday and Sunday, but most communities will remain dry. High temperatures will be near 90 today and in the days ahead. I expect temperatures to be in the low-80s tonight for the kickoff of high school football games slated to happen across the region around 7PM. Temperatures will be in the upper-70s by 9PM. A few more Friday morning forecast notes are below.

TROPICAL STORM FIONA MOVING WEST; NORTHWARD TURN LIKELY NEXT WEEK… The latest forecast guidance from the National Hurricane Center shows Tropical Storm Fiona continuing to move west through the weekend, followed by a northerly turn early next week near the island of Hispaniola. While it remains a bit too early to know exactly where Fiona will end up, most of the major weather models are highlighting a northerly turn next week, potentially taking the system northward into the Atlantic. While this solution would be problematic for Bermuda next week, this would be a better situation for the continental U.S. It remains too early to pinpoint the exact track of Fiona and uncertainty continues to be large next week. I will have more updates posted in the days ahead in the RedZone Weather app.

TROPICAL STORM WATCHES AND WARNINGS FOR PARTS OF THE CARIBBEAN… A Tropical Storm Warning is in effect for several of the northernmost Lesser Antilles ahead of the projected arrival of Tropical Storm Fiona. The center of Fiona will likely pass through the Leeward Islands tomorrow (Friday) evening into Saturday morning. A Tropical Storm Watch is in effect for the U.S. and British Virgin Islands and Puerto Rico. Impacts from Fiona are likely in Puerto Rico late Saturday into early Sunday.

REMAINDER OF ATLANTIC BASIN IS QUIET… Outside of Tropical Storm Fiona, the remainder of the tropical Atlantic is quiet. The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea are also quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days.

PLENTY OF SUNSHINE & WARMER CONDITIONS NEXT WEEK… Mostly sunny skies are expected to persist into next week. There is little to no chance of rain Monday through Thursday of the upcoming week. High temperatures will rise into the low- to mid-90s each day with morning lows near the 70 degree mark. Despite our “fake fall” that happened a few days ago, it is climatologically normal to experience hot temperatures like this well into September.
