FEW STORMS AROUND TODAY; HEAT WARNINGS & ADVISORIES OVER NEXT FEW DAYS… Pop-up thunderstorms will be possible on this Wednesday across south Alabama and northwest Florida. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s today with heat index values in the 100s. Tomorrow, we’re looking at what will likely be one of the hottest days of the year. Heat index values could easily be in the 115-120° range. Excessive Heat Warnings and Heat Advisories will be in effect on Thursday for much of, if not all of, the local area. Extreme heat will continue to be an issue into Friday and Saturday ahead of some reprieve (although not much) on Sunday.
A FEW STRONGER STORMS POSSIBLE ACROSS WEST ALABAMA… The Storm Prediction Center has included parts of west Alabama in their low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone valid for today. This risk zone has been introduced as some of the thunderstorms may ramp up and produce gusty winds at times today into this evening. Widespread severe storms are not expected and the overall tornado risk remains quite low.
WEEKEND PREVIEW… P.M. pop-up thunderstorms will continue to be possible into the weekend with high temperatures near the 100° mark on Saturday. High temperatures will be in the upper-90s on Sunday. Heat index values will be in the 100-110° range each day.
TROPICS QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next several days. The remnants of Tropical Storm Cindy continue to move north over the western Atlantic Ocean. This system will bring rain and gusty winds to parts of Bermuda over the next 2 days. The remnants of Cindy may redevelop into a tropical storm over the northern Atlantic Ocean. Direct U.S. impacts are not expected, regardless of if the system becomes a named storm again.
