ONE OF THE HOTTEST DAYS OF THE YEAR TODAY; HIGH RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… Today has the makings of what will likely go down as one of the hottest days of 2023. High temperatures will be in the upper-90s and near the 100 degree mark. Ample humidity in the air means that heat index values will climb into the 108-111° range this afternoon. Overall rain chances remain quite low today. Rain chances are slated to rise tomorrow (Friday) ahead of much higher rain chances this weekend into early next week. While organized severe storms are not in the forecast, P.M. thunderstorms will likely become numerous by Saturday and Sunday.
TROPICAL WAVE IN FAR EASTERN ATLANTIC… A tropical wave located south of the Cabo Verde Islands in the far eastern Atlantic Ocean is moving westward. The National Hurricane Center has indicated this system has a 20% chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next several days. From NHC: “Cloudiness and showers continue over the eastern tropical Atlantic centered a few hundred miles south of the Cabo Verde Islands in association with a tropical wave. While dry air should prevent significant organization during the next few days, environmental conditions could become more conducive for some development by this weekend while the wave moves westward across the central tropical Atlantic at about 20 mph.”
GULF & CARIBBEAN QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no tropical storms expected to form in the next 5-7 days. The peak of the 2023 Atlantic Hurricane Season will happen on September 11.
