FEW STORMS THIS AFTERNOON; HIGHER RAIN CHANCES THIS WEEKEND… A few widely scattered showers and thunderstorms may happen on this Tuesday across the region, particularly in the afternoon and evening hours. MOST of us across the region will remain dry and hot today. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s. Heat index values will increase as we get into the upcoming weekend with more moisture content in the atmosphere. Rain chances are also slated to increase this weekend with more P.M. pop-up storms expected. Overall, we are in a very typical late July weather pattern that looks to continue through the end of the month.
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE NEAR THE LESSER ANTILLES… The tropical wave that moved across the central Atlantic Ocean over the last few days is now bringing rain and storms to parts of the Lesser Antilles. The system has a 20% chance of becoming a tropical storm over the next few days. From the National Hurricane Center: “A tropical wave is located a few hundred miles east of the Windward Islands. Although this system has not become any better organized since yesterday, some slow development remains possible during the next couple of days while it moves westward near 20 mph across the tropical Atlantic and into the eastern Caribbean Sea. Regardless of development, locally heavy rains and strong gusty winds are possible across portions of the Lesser Antilles during the next day or two. Environmental conditions are expected to become unfavorable for development of this system by the middle of the week.”
TROPICS: LOW PRESSURE AREA SOUTH OF BERMUDA… An area of disturbed weather has developed south of Bermuda in the western Atlantic Ocean. There is a 20% chance of a tropical storm forming north of The Bahamas, east of the Florida, Georgia, and South Carolina coast in 4-5 days. Regardless of if development happens with this system, direct impacts are currently not expected in south Alabama or northwest Florida.
TROPICS: FINAL ADVISORY ISSUED ON DON… Tropical Storm Don weakened to a post-tropical cyclone while moving northeast in the northern Atlantic Ocean yesterday. The National Hurricane Center has issued its final advisory on Don.
