INCREASING CLOUDINESS TODAY; RAIN AT TIMES FRIDAY AND INTO WEEKEND… Clouds will increase in coverage across the region on this Thursday. We *finally* have some rain in the forecast in the days ahead, starting tomorrow (Friday) when scattered showers will become possible. It is important to understand that we don’t see heavy, long duration rain in the forecast but we DO see multiple days ahead with light to moderate rain being possible. High temperatures across the region today will be in the low- to mid-80s.
RAIN & STORMS TO OUR WEST TODAY… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible today from east Texas into Louisiana, Arkansas, northern Mississippi, and western Tennessee. These areas of rain and storms are associated with the same frontal boundary that will gradually push toward our local area tomorrow, paving the way for rain chances to rise on Friday locally. There is no formal risk of severe weather today but there may be a few thunderstorms involved, particularly in parts of east Texas and western Louisiana.
SCATTERED SHOWERS ON FRIDAY INTO FRIDAY EVENING… Rain will be possible at times throughout the day on Friday and into the evening hours. If you’re headed to a high school football game tomorrow evening, take the umbrellas just in case you are near/under one of the scattered showers. High temperatures on Friday will be in the mid-70s with temperatures in the 60s for the high school football games (at and after 7PM).
UNSETTLED PATTERN TO CONTINUE INTO WEEKEND… Rain will continue to be possible into the weekend with a southwesterly flow aloft keeping our pattern unsettled. Not every community will have rain on Saturday or Sunday but many locales will have multiple rounds of light to moderate rain. Temperatures will be in the 60s during the daytime hours this weekend with overnight lows in the 50s. Keep the rain jackets handy this weekend. Widespread severe weather is not expected.
MORE RAIN POSSIBLE INTO NEXT WEEK… The wet, fairly unsettled pattern will continue into next week with rain being possible on Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday as well. Rain totals won’t stack up to very much over the course of the next several days (through Wednesday) but at this point with ongoing worsening drought conditions, any rainfall is helpful.
TROPICS REMAIN QUIET… The Gulf of Mexico, Caribbean Sea, and Atlantic Ocean are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to develop over the next 5-7 days. Some of the major global models continue to hint at the possibility of a tropical storm developing in the southwestern Caribbean Sea in the next 10-14 days, but it is far too early for any specifics as to where the system might end up IF one actually develops.
