RAIN LIKELY TODAY AND SATURDAY; LOW-END SEVERE WEATHER RISK… Scattered to numerous showers and thunderstorms are likely at times today and on Saturday. There is a low-end, Level 1 (out of 5) severe weather risk zone in place for all of south Alabama and northwest Florida today, tonight, and into Saturday. That means that widespread, significant severe storms are unlikely but one or two tornadoes may become possible. Gusty winds will also be a concern in any thunderstorms that can become strong. Most communities across the region today will simply have rain, perhaps heavy rain, at times. High temperatures today will surge into the 70s behind an advancing warm front.
LEVEL 1 (OUT OF 5) SEVERE WEATHER RISK FOR ENTIRE LOCAL AREA TODAY… The overall severe weather risk is LOW today, but not entirely zero. Most communities will have rain at times. A few strong to marginally severe thunderstorms may be possible this morning and into the early afternoon hours and again later this evening. Days like today can be a bit tricky because most folks tend to “tune out” from weather information after seeing “low-end risk.” If one tornado affects you, however, it’s a big deal. We encourage everyone, even on a “low-end” risk day, to have a good, reliable way to hear urgent weather warnings just in case a warning is needed for your specific location.
MULTIPLE ROUNDS OF STORMS LIKELY TODAY AND TOMORROW… You may be wondering about specific timing for severe weather. Unfortunately, it is a bit difficult to give a specific timeline with this event as multiple waves of rain and thunderstorms are likely over the next 48 hours. One round of storms may happen this morning into the early afternoon hours followed by somewhat of a lull in activity. Another round of storms may happen at some point this evening into the overnight hours, perhaps extending into Saturday. There won’t really be cut off times as much as just wave after wave of rain and storms. Again, MOST communities will simply have beneficial rain in the hours ahead but one or two tornadoes or areas of damaging wind gusts cannot completely be ruled out. I’ll have radar updates posted throughout the day and into the night in the RedZone Weather app.
STORMS LIKELY AT TIMES SATURDAY… Tomorrow will be quite similar to today with multiple waves of rain and thunderstorms being likely. There may be a few strong to severe storms around, although the severe weather risk overall should remain rather low. High temperatures will be in the mid-70s on Saturday.
SHOWERS & STORMS CLEAR OUT SUNDAY EVENING… Rain and thunderstorms will likely come to an end on Sunday. Scattered showers may persist into the morning and early afternoon hours but the evening hours should be drier overall. High temperatures on Sunday will be around 70 degrees with morning lows in the 60s.
DRIER, COOLER CONDITIONS NEXT WEEK… Drier conditions are likely in the middle part of the upcoming week along with another shot of cold air on Wednesday and Thursday. High temperatures will be in the low- to mid-60s next week with morning lows in the 40s on Tuesday and Wednesday mornings followed by temperatures closer to the freezing mark by Thursday morning.
