ISOLATED P.M. STORMS TODAY, FRIDAY, AND INTO WEEKEND; HOT TEMPS TO CONTINUE… Isolated thunderstorms will be possible this afternoon into this evening across the region. Most communities across south Alabama and northwest Florida will remain dry as storms will be widely spaced in nature. High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-90s with heat index values again in excess of 105° in many spots. Rain chances will rise ever so slightly as we get into the weekend with a 30-40% chance of rain in the afternoon and evening hours on Saturday and Sunday.
HURRICANE ERNESTO BARRELS TOWARD BERMUDA… A Hurricane Watch is in effect for Bermuda ahead of the arrival of Hurricane Ernesto tomorrow into Saturday. Ernesto continues to gain strength on this Thursday. While the storm will never be a direct threat to Alabama or northwest Florida, interests in Bermuda should closely monitor the progress of this system. The current projected path of Ernesto continues to keep the system to the east of the continental United States. There is a chance that the Canadian Maritimes (Nova Scotia and Newfoundland) could be impacted by Ernesto next week.
REMAINDER OF TROPICS ARE QUIET… Other than Hurricane Ernesto, the Atlantic basin is relatively quiet. No tropical storm formation is expected in the Gulf of Mexico or Caribbean Sea over the next 5-7 days. The climatological peak of the Atlantic Hurricane Season will happen on September 11.
