SCATTERED P.M. STORMS TODAY; HIGHER RAIN CHANCES NEXT WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms will develop across the region this afternoon into this evening. Storms will remain widely scattered in nature, thus not every community will get wet before the end of the day. Severe storms are not expected today, but some of the storms will be loud at times with quite a bit of lightning and thunder. High temperatures will be in the mid-90s with heat index values in excess of 100° in many spots. Rain chances will gradually increase over the next several days with high (70+%) chances of rain coming next week.

TROPICS: 20% CHANCE OF DEVELOPMENT IN ATLANTIC… The National Hurricane Center indicates there is a 20% chance of a tropical storm developing in the central Atlantic Ocean early next week. From NHC: “An area of low pressure could form in the central portion of the tropical Atlantic in a few days. Thereafter, environmental conditions appear generally favorable for some slow development of this system this weekend into early next week as it moves westward to west-northwestward at 10 to 15 mph.”

TROPICS: GULF & CARIBBEAN REMAIN QUIET, FOR NOW… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea remain quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. The climatological peak of hurricane season is rapidly approaching and will happen on September 11.
