INCREASINGLY CLOUDY TODAY; RAIN CHANCES RISE TONIGHT INTO THURSDAY… Skies will become mostly cloudy on this Wednesday with high temperatures in the upper-80s. Showers and storms will be possible today, particularly closer to the immediate coast. Intermittent rain will gradually spread inland tonight and into Thursday. Rain chances will be peaking on Friday when numerous showers and storms are likely across the region. The good news is widespread severe storms are not expected over the next few days but there likely will be some loud storms involved at times.
HIGHER RAIN AMOUNTS NEAR THE COAST… The latest rainfall projections show 4-5″ of total rainfall being possible closer to the coast through Sunday. Keep in mind that the 4-5″ of rainfall would not happen all at once but would stack up to those amounts over the next few days. Rain amounts farther inland will be in the 1-2″ range in total.
TROPICS: TROPICAL WAVE NEAR JAMAICA IN CARIBBEAN SEA… Development probabilities for the tropical wave located near Jamaica in the central Caribbean Sea have lessened somewhat. The National Hurricane Center now indicates this system has a 20-30% chance of becoming a tropical storm as the system moves toward the Yucatan Peninsula. We note that model guidance has significantly backed off on the idea of development as well. I will continue to monitor this system as it moves west, but rest easier knowing there is a real chance the system may not be a direct concern for our local area anytime soon.
TROPICS: TWO TROPICAL WAVES IN ATLANTIC OCEAN… Two tropical waves, one in the central Atlantic and the other in the far eastern Atlantic near the Cabo Verde Islands, are moving westward. These tropical waves have low-end (10-20% chances) of becoming named tropical storms over the next several days. No land impacts are expected because of these systems over the next few days.
