SCATTERED STORMS TODAY; DRIER LATER THIS WEEK… Scattered thunderstorms are likely at times on this Monday across the region. There is a good chance most communities will have rain around at times today but some will not. The greatest chance of rain will happen along and southwest of a line from Chatom to Brewton to Destin. You can see what I mean by this in the projected radar loop included in the morning video. The good news is widespread severe storms are not expected. Any storms that develop will be capable of producing localized downpours, cloud-to-ground lightning, and loud thunder. High temperatures today will be in the
MORE POP-UP STORMS TOMORROW; DRIER END TO THE WEEK… Tomorrow will feature a few widely scattered thunderstorms. Wednesday will feature even lower rain chances ahead of sunny and dry conditions becoming likely on Thursday and Friday. High temperatures will be in the 80s this week with morning lows in the upper-60s.
SLIGHTLY COOLER TEMPS BY FRIDAY MORNING… Overnight lows will briefly dip into the low-60s later this week, specifically on Friday morning. Humidity levels are expected to be slightly lower on Friday and Saturday.
TROPICAL DEPRESSION GORDON IN THE ATLANTIC… Tropical Storm Gordon formed over the weekend in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean, about halfway between the Lesser Antilles and the western coast of Africa. The storm weakened to tropical depression status yesterday. Gordon will continue to be a weak, unorganized system over the next few days. No threat to land over the next 5 days.
PTC8/TROPICAL STORM HELENE NEAR SOUTH CAROLINA COAST… Potential Tropical Cyclone #8 is located near the South Carolina coast on this Monday. This system is expected to become a tropical storm today, taking the name “Helene.” The system will move inland near Myrtle Beach, South Carolina, likely as a tropical storm producing maximum winds near 50 mph. The storm could spawn a few tornadoes in parts of South Carolina and eastern North Carolina today into tonight.
