RAIN AT TIMES TODAY; FEW SHOWERS OVER THE WEEKEND; DRIER & COOLER NEXT WEEK… Scattered showers and thunderstorms will be possible at times throughout the day on this Friday. The greatest chances of rain will happen near and south of the Interstate 10 corridor this afternoon into this evening, although isolated showers will be possible into this evening across the region. MOST spots, however, will begin drying out after 6PM tonight. Widespread severe storms are not anticipated today, although you may hear some loud thunder at times, particularly in communities closer to the immediate coast. High temperatures will be in the upper-70s today. Most of the high school football games across the region will be dry (wet fields though!) with game time temperatures in the low-70s.
DISTURBANCE IN GULF REMAINS DISORGANIZED… Interaction with a frontal boundary is expected to limit a tropical disturbance from becoming more organized over the weekend. There are some indications that the tropical system just across Mexico in the eastern Pacific may have some interactions with this disturbance as well. The National Hurricane Center continues to suggest there is a 30% chance of a named tropical storm forming in the central or southern Gulf over the next 5-7 days. All of the reliable, global models continue to show movement toward the Florida Peninsula early next week. This will be a rainmaker for the Florida Peninsula. Direct local impacts, other than high waves and rip currents at the beaches, in south Alabama and northwest Florida remain unlikely.
KIRK & LESLIE IN THE ATLANTIC… Hurricane Kirk and Tropical Storm Leslie are moving northwest in the open waters of the eastern Atlantic Ocean. The two storms are expected to remain well away from land areas over the next 5 days. We note Hurricane Kirk is a category 4, major hurricane with maximum winds in excess of 130 mph.
