COOLER TEMPS TODAY AND TOMORROW; QUITE CHILLY OVERNIGHT… High temperatures will be in the upper-70s in many locales across south Alabama and northwest Florida on this Tuesday. We’re expecting the coldest night we have had since the spring months. Low temperatures will be in the 40s in many spots across the region tonight. High temperatures tomorrow will struggle to get to the 70 degree mark. This cold snap will be at its apex on Thursday morning with some areas farther inland dipping into the upper-30s. Temperatures will begin to moderate this weekend.
A COUPLE OF SPRINKLES OR SHOWERS POSSIBLE TODAY… While most of us will remain dry across south Alabama and northwest Florida, a few highly isolated sprinkles or showers will be possible today. Any chance of rain will diminish this evening as dry, cold air filters into the region from the northwest.
TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IN ATLANTIC OCEAN… The Gulf of Mexico and Caribbean Sea are quiet with no new tropical storms expected to form over the next 5-7 days. No direct tropical/hurricane impacts are expected in Alabama or northwest Florida over the next 5-7 days. We are watching a tropical wave well out in the Atlantic Ocean that now has a 60% chance of becoming a named tropical storm as the system moves west toward the northern Leeward Islands. Interests in Puerto Rico, the U.S. and British Virgin Islands, and the northern Lesser Antilles should closely monitor the progress of this system. Long-term guidance of this system shows a continued westerly movement toward the Dominican Republic and potentially The Bahamas.
TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IN WESTERN CARIBBEAN SEA… The National Hurricane Center indicates there is a 20% chance of a tropical storm forming in the western Caribbean Sea over the next week. From NHC: “A broad area of low pressure could develop over the southwestern Caribbean Sea by the middle to latter portions of this week. Some gradual development is possible thereafter if the system stays over water while it moves slowly west-northwestward towards northern Central America. Regardless of development, locally heavy rainfall is possible across portions of Central America later this week.”
