WARM TEMPS HERE TO STAY THIS WEEK; TROPICAL DISTURBANCE IN CARIBBEAN SEA… High temperatures will be in the mid- to upper-80s on this Monday and over the next several days across south Alabama and northwest Florida. It is good news that we have no severe weather in the forecast – quite the opposite actually: We have a slew of nice, sunny days ahead. That means, of course, that we also don’t have any rain in the forecast over the next 7 days. Drought conditions will get progressively worse this week across the region. We’re also watching a new tropical disturbance in the Caribbean Sea.
COMFORTABLE WEATHER DAYS AHEAD… Mostly sunny skies are in the forecast today, tomorrow, and Wednesday with high temperatures expected to be in the mid- to upper-80s. Morning lows will be in the upper-50s and near the 60 degree mark.
DROUGHT WORSENS ACROSS REGION… The U.S. Drought Monitor indicates inland areas of south Alabama are now involved in the Level 1 (out of 4) drought zone. Northwest Florida and places near coastal Alabama are involved in the “abnormally dry” zone. I am expecting these drought designations to worsen region wide later this week when the new Drought Monitor is released on Thursday. We need the rain across the region but we do not have any rain in the 7 Day Forecast at this point.
TROPICS: DISTURBANCE IN CARIBBEAN SEA… The National Hurricane Center indicates there is a 40-50% chance of a new tropical storm developing in the southern Caribbean Sea, just to the east of Nicaragua. This system is expected to drift gradually to the northeast, perhaps toward Cuba, Jamaica, or Hispaniola, regardless of if formal development happens. While the odds of the system moving into the Gulf of Mexico are very low, chances are not completely zero at this point. This system represents something to monitor over the next few days.
