RAIN AT TIMES THIS MORNING; COLDER, DRIER AIR SURGES IN LATER TODAY… Showers and thunderstorms in progress across parts of our region on this Thursday morning will clear out to the southeast this afternoon into the early evening hours. Widespread severe thunderstorms are not expected today but a few claps of thunder remain possible, particularly in areas closer to the immediate coast. Temperatures have reached their peak for the day in many spots. I expect temperatures to hover in the 50s this afternoon ahead of 40s being likely by 6PM this evening.
COLD TEMPERATURES TOMORROW AND INTO THE WEEKEND… One of the reasons we have rain around this morning is because of an advancing cold front pushing into our area from the northwest. This frontal boundary will usher in colder, drier air this evening into tonight. Overnight lows will again be in the 20s in many spots by 6AM tomorrow morning. Highs on Friday will only be in the 50s. Cold temperatures persist into Saturday ahead of a slight warm up on Sunday and Monday.
WARMER AND WETTER PATTERN EARLY NEXT WEEK… The wettest day of the next 7 days will likely be Monday as multiple rounds of rain and thunderstorms are expected. For now, the overall risk of any severe storms remains rather low, but perhaps not completely zero. I will be monitoring trends over the weekend to make sure we can rule out any tornado threat early next week.
